What is the Go Solar Initiative?
Despite our differences, we all share the same home: Planet Earth. At VELUX, we want to ensure the products we offer help reduce our carbon footprint, which is why we designed the Go Solar Initiative.
When you Go Solar with VELUX, you are well on your way to reducing your dependency on electricity by exchanging artificial light for bright, natural light, and in some cases, HVAC for fresh air. You can join the Go Solar Initiative by purchasing solar-powered products for your home which make you eligible for a 30% Federal Solar Tax Credit on the entire cost of your products and installation. So, look up and Go Solar!
What do I need to do to receive my federal tax credit?
In order to receive your federal tax credit, you’ll need to follow a few steps the year your skylight is installed.
When the product is installed: Keep your receipts for total price paid (product and installation) for one of the qualifying VELUX products and attach them to a completed Federal Tax Credit – Manufacturers Certification Statement. Keep this for your records.
When it is tax time: Fill out IRS Tax Form 5695 and submit it with your taxes. Enter this tax credit off of Form 5695 on your 1040 Form.
1. IRS Notice 2009-41 suggests the taxpayer is not required to attach this certification statement to their tax return. However, the taxpayer should retain this certification as part of their tax records.
2. As in all tax matters, the taxpayer is advised to consult their tax professional. VELUX America LLC assumes no liability regarding the homeowner’s ability to obtain tax credits.

What does the warranty cover?
You may download your copy of the VELUX Warranty here. VELUX Skylights and Sun Tunnels come with 20/10/5 year warranty explained in detail on the flyer. If you have a concern or question regarding any service including your skylight installation please call us first and we will inspect the installation and address your concern directly if possible or assist you in contacting Velux directly if we are not able to resolve the concern.
Why did the remote stop working?
Your automated skylights and shades are solar powered and the sun recharges their battery. The remote itself that you use to control the skylights and shades runs on batteries and often simply replacing your remote battery will solve the problem. The solar battery for your skylights and shades are under warranty for 5 years. If it is past the five years then it may be time to replace the solar battery, the good news is yes this may be done but there is a charge after the five year warranty period.
